Your Day on The Tasman Glacier

There is nowhere else on Earth you can come on a daily ski plane-accessed skiing adventure. Aside from skiing amongst New Zealand's tallest mountains - exploring incredible ice caves, towers (seracs), and canyons make Ski The Tasman unforgettable.

Climb aboard your ski plane

Loading Ski PlaneAt 09:30, after a safety brief from your guide - it’s time to climb onboard the waiting ski plane.15 minutes later you disembark on the Tasman Glacier at 2,500 metres. After the aircraft departs it’s just you, your guide, and the natural quiet of the mountains…

New Zealand's biggest scenery on show

Tasman Valley, looking northThe scale of the peaks and terrain at Mt Cook is Himalayan. Aoraki/Mount Cook rises 3000 metres (9,800 ft) from it's valley floor. At 27 km (17 mi), the Tasman Glacier is the longest temperate glacier in the Southern Hemisphere. The average run length is about 8 km, and up to 10 km in some seasons.

Relax, take your time...

Skiers and guide on the Tasman GlacierThe pace on Ski The Tasman is relaxed. You have time to appreciate the pure wilderness of Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.

Most of the Tasman's skiing terrain features wide-open slopes or undulating bowls, perfect for cruisy turns.

Lunch on the snow, and another incredible ski run

Mount Cook domintaes the skylineAfter "schussing" kilometres of untracked snow, your ski plane takes you to a new landing site for a picnic lunch on the snow. Then on to a second run, and a different line down the glacier. Making turns to your waiting ski plane completes the experience.

Amongst The Ice Falls

The "Darwin Ice Fall" and "Canyon Lands" areas feature incredible ice caves and seracs. Your guide will take you safely through these sometimes labyrinth-like ice

Seracs are blocks and towers of ice and snow as big as buildings. They form when softer ice falls away from denser ice, or where multiple crevasses meet.

Picnic lunch with a view

Hot soup or fruit juice, filled rolls, crumbed chicken, pastries, chocolate, and fresh fruit is on the menu. A tablecloth spread over a mound of snow makes an elegant alpine dining table.
